2025 40th Anniversary Challenge!
Show us your 40!
Show us your 40!
The inspiration for this Challenge comes from an old poster from a rodeo circa 1930’s. Imagine you are at the National Rodeo Finals here in Las Vegas. See the bronco riders straining to stay on their bucking broncos; watch the speed of calf roping; see how quickly cowboys wrestle steers to the ground; watch how long cowboys stay on bucking bulls; or how fast they race their horses around barrels.

What is the DQN Challenge and how does it work?
Each year, the Board solicits proposals from the membership for the Annual Challenge. The Challenge is based on a theme with specific rules; it often includes at least one piece of fabric that must be included in the final piece. Beginning in 2024, entries can fall into any of 8 categories:
100% pieced
100% applique
Mixed- combination of pieced, applique and/or embroidery
Circle Group - any entry submitted by a DQN Circle and designated as such
Group - any entry worked on by 2 or more DQN members done separate from a specific DQN Circle
Off the Wall - any entry that is not a traditional bed or wall quilt, i.e., clothing, table runner, home dec, bag, doll, etc.
Small- any small quilt between 12" to 24" or 20" square; includes minatures. Note: this category has been expanded for 2024 to allow more entries while providing a place for small quilts that may not meet the definition of a minature quilt.
First entry - first time entry in the Challenge by a currene member
The items are displayed at the July Quarterly Meeting where members vote on their favorite in each category. Ribbons are awarded to the First and Second Place winners (if there are less than 5 entries in a single category, there is only a First Place winner). And a gift certificate valid at several local and online quilt shops is awarded to the First Place winners.
It's a mini quilt show with amazing interpretations of a single theme! You owe it to yourself to get a packet and stretch your creative talents while having fun!
