MYSTERY BLOCK OF THE MONTH 2021
WAITING FOR THE VACCINE
organized by Christine Dunn
NEW BLOCKS RELEASED FOR MAY & JUNE , 2021
These are the next two months for our BOM program.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Each block should finish at 12" (12 1/2" unfinished), i.e., the standard size for most BOM programs.
Note: most Block of the month programs refer to one quilting method in a 12” finished block size; we are doing three per month, with choices in most if not all of these methods. And design challenges once in a while too. Some month’s alternate sites are listed. So while the 12” size might be found on The Quilters Cache, the Generations Quilt Pattern site might list it or a variation of it, in other sizes. Sorry miniature enthusiasts; nothing in this program is that small.
Note: We will provide you with the link to the blocks which you can then print. You can make whatever you like-mug rugs, table toppers or runners, sampler quilt or placemats. Taking you to a website for you to print out the pattern has to do with copyright nuances which are changing in the crafting/quilting world. We recommend reading the following:
https://www.generations-quilt-patterns.com/copyright.html
https://www.quilterscache.com/TermsPage.html
Of course, you are free to find and use your own pattern that fits the theme of the monthly block.

Applique: original pattern from Judy Kaufman, Loose Threads Circe: Saquaro - click here for pattern.
Instructions for the saquaro block from Judy:
1. Cut a 12.5-inch square of the fabric you want to be the background. Press it well.
2. Choose the fabric you want to be the cactus. Press a piece of Heat ‘n Bond Lite to the wrong side of the fabric large enough for the pattern to easily fit on it. May want to resize pattern or make more than one.
3. Place the pattern on the cactus fabric and pin it in place or trace around it. Cut out the cactus. Remove the paper from the back of the Heat ‘n Bond.
4. Place your cactus in the center of your block. An easy way to find the center is to fold the background fabric in half lengthwise and then fold it in half crosswise. Finger press the fold and that is your center. Then press the cactus on to the background fabric.
5. To finish the block either machine stitch around the edge of the block. You can choose a tight zig-zag stitch, a regular stitch or a decorative stitch like a blanket stitch. If you want the stitches to show, use a different color thread. If you want the stitch to be invisible, choose a thread color that matches the cactus.
