When it comes to careers, mine has been something of a shape-shifter, changing my profession every decade or so. Most recently I’ve combined my backgrounds in fashion design and graphic design with my love of sewing to focus on dimensional fabric art that is bright, cheerful and fun. I’ve participated in some 50 juried art festivals, exhibiting and selling my art. More recently, I’ve added speaking engagements, workshops, and pattern making to my professional mix.
I have been “creating” in one form or another for as long as I can remember. My mom taught me how to sew when I was seven years-old and it's been a constant in my life ever since.

My love of sewing inspired me to study fashion design in college, and I received a BFA from Stephens College. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to pursue my degree the way I had hoped after graduation, but it prepared me for other things to come.

In my late twenties I pursued another creative direction and studied graphic design. I worked at a small advertising agency before starting my own business.

A constant in my life has been my love of bright colors. I had the pleasure of growing up on Oahu, and the colors and beauty of the island has had a strong influence on my life and art. Colors speak to me, motivate me and make me feel good. I do believe colors affect people in a positive way, and I see this when people are viewing my art. People smile…a lot, and this makes me smile.

Sheila is visiting from Sunnyvale, CA.  She is on Facebook at Sheila Collins Fabric Art.
Guests are welcome to attend our quarterly meetings; there is a $10 charge payable at the door for returning guests.
