Original designs, using the design elements of shape, color, space, form, line, value, texture and implementing the rules of design of balance (symmetrical or asymmetrical), emphasis, movement and proportion. If inspired by another, said artist needs to be recognized but never copied: not changed by only an alteration of size, fabric, or color from the existing design. Any category can use innovative construction and/or techniques. The pieces may be 2 layers, 3 layers, or more as desired, and may be quilted by another individual.
- Only DQN members will be able to register for the quilt show. You must become a member or renew your membership by January 15, 2023, to be eligible to enter quilts or other items. The membership form may be found online or downloaded from the DQN website www.dqnv.org/membership .
- All entry forms, summary/payment forms, and payments must be submitted online by January 15, 2023.
- Only the first 125 entries requesting TO BE JUDGED will be accepted. Only the first 125 entries requesting NOT TO BE JUDGED are guaranteed to be hung in the show: others will be placed on a waitlist to fill-in as space is available.
- A separate entry form must be submitted for each item entered. A maximum of four (4) items will be automatically accepted from each entrant. Entrants may only enter one entry per category for Judged items; unlimited number of entries in a single category for non-judged items
- One Summary/Payment Form must be submitted, listing all your entries. There is a $5 registration fee per entry for the non-judged items and a $15 registration fee per entry for judged items. Submit all payments through the DQN Store on the DQN website.
- Entries must have at least three layers held together by quilting stitches. Except in categories 126, 200, 202, 206, 300-304. Please refer to the category description for specifications.
- Maximum quilt width for the majority of entries is 90”. Space has been allotted for an estimated 10 quilts between 91” and 110”; the maximum number is dependent of space available and will be accepted on a first-come first serve basis. A waiting list will be maintained for use as space becomes available or withdrawals are made.
- If the length of the quilt is longer than 96”, it will be pooled on clean white paper on the floor. Only one hanging sleeve is required, regardless of length.
- All entries are required to have a fabric label including the name of the entrant and the name of the entry on all pieces in a group. The name of the entry must match the name on your entry form. Quilt labels must be sewn on the back of the quilt in the lower right corner. We will not accept items with a label pinned to the item. In the case of Off-the-Wall, Home Dec and Bags, please sew a label to the inside, back, or bottom of the item.
- All items entered must be completed after January 1, 2020. An item entered in the 2022 non-judged Quilt Las Vegas Show is eligible for entry as a judged item in the 2023 show.
- Except for art quilts that are small enough to be hung on a hanger on a garment rack, each quilt entry must be able to be folded and stacked with other entries on a table, without risk to itself or other entries.
- Quilts must be clean and free from pet hair, perfume, and/or smoke odor.
- Quilts will be judged by an NACQJ certified quilt judge. The judge reserves the right not to award ribbons unless specific category criteria have been met. Judged entries will receive written evaluations via email.
- Ribbons will be awarded at the discretion of the judge.
- Many entries can legitimately be placed in more than one category, but they must meet the qualifications of the category to receive a ribbon. It is the entrant’s responsibility to choose the correct category for your entries. You are only allowed one entry per category.
- If two or more persons contribute to an award-winning quilt, additional ribbon(s) may be purchased from DQN.
- If you have any questions about the categories, please contact Gina Fiddes at 702-742-4040 or Vicki Ruebel at 702-575-9343 or email to dqnjudging@gmail.com
